Unlike Foundry Workshop and Pipeline Builder, the Ontology exists to serve other applications within Foundry by adding semantic meaning to golden data and centrally linking it, so this course teaches it in a strongly applied way rather than as theory. After a brief grounding in what an ontology is, the focus quickly shifts to Foundry’s implementation, showing how the Ontology flows into key applications such as AIP and Workshop: how it shapes AIP Agent behaviour, where it genuinely helps (and where it doesn’t), and how Ontology-aware features in Workshop enable filtering, traversal, and curated Object Views owned by data teams. The course then zooms out to an organisation-level view, exploring how the Ontology stabilises downstream applications, acts as a buffer against fragile pipelines, encourages loud rather than silent failures, and unlocks consistent, cross-object views of data through shared semantics and global interfaces.
